The Ignorant Wife Speaks: Week 5 Recap (We did it!)

Camilla Paterson

Wow, wow, wow! What a week! I am still floating on a high after our stellar performance over the weekend.

Let’s jump straight into it. I’m not going to lie, scepticism was starting to creep in with the Jags having a home game advantage and let’s be honest it was a nice stadium; light and open.

Mills had a couple ‘almost’ passes in the first quarter which unfortunately was followed by a few almost catches. Good pressure from our defence resulted in some crucial incomplete passes by the Jaguars keeping us in the game. It quickly turned into a kicking game with Ka’imi Fairbairn (#7) shining as per usual.

Trailing by three points we jumped into the 2nd quarter, with the odd breakaways from Nico Collins (#12), Brandin Cooks (#13) and Dameon Pierce (#31), this quarter felt a little boring and predictable, as we had majority possession however were delivering the same plays. The commentators summed it up well with the comment: “Both teams appear to be allergic to points.” Fairbairn turned up the heat with his kicking game allowing us to steal the lead for a few minutes, before the Jags closed the quarter with a field goal, ending the first half 6 a piece. That being said, I can’t skim past the huge hit Christian Kirksey (#58) delivered, preventing the Jags first touchdown towards the end of the quarter. Let’s just say I would not want to get on that fella’s bad side!

Unreal interception by Derek Stingley Jr. (#24) during the 3rd Quarter, helping us hold out the Jaguars. This also appeared to be the momentum we were looking for to visualise taking this game. The pressure was raised, hits harder and louder and a few new plays were tested out by Mills with his tight ends Jordan Atkins (#88) and Mason Schreck (#86). Both teams appeared fatigued, and it looks like Coach Lovie decided to rest our offensive side for the fourth quarter hoping to make something happen.

The boys returned to the field, proud, hard hitting and determined. With the tension building the game turned grubby with a few swinging arms and cheap shots, and unfortunately for us, Mills, our quarterback, was in their sights. He copped a few hard hits and was sacked during potential touchdown breakaways. Our Bulls composed themselves, shook it off and dug even deeper. At this point we saw the team connected, communicating, and taking charge.

An unbelievable run by Dameon Pierce pushing through tackle, after tackle after tackle gaining yards looking for something to happen. The boys were hungry for it. Things heated up at this point with challenges, timeouts, 2 yards out. I can only imagine solid play time during this period of our game aired on the redzone. It was exciting! Persistence prevails with Pierce getting us across the line.

The boys showed strength with excellent pressure and a few crucial blocks against the Jags for the remaining of the game. Great final interception by Desmond King II (#25) to secure our first win of the season!

The crowd goes wild! Well the Bulls fans anyway...

HOUSTON TEXAN BULLS 13 – Jacksonville Jaguars 6

Let’s have a look at how the rest of my picks prevailed, hopefully pushing me at least one up on George…What am I saying? The Texans won, it doesn’t even matter!

Colts Beat Broncos 12-9 (A Win)

Patriots Beat Lions 29-0

Chargers Beat Browns 30-28

Texans Beat Jaguars 13 – 6 (Yeah Baby!!!)

Buccaneers Beat Falcons 21-15

Bills Beat Steelers 38 - 3

Jets Beat Dolphins 40-17

Vikings Beat Bears 29-22 (A Win)

Titans Beat Commanders 21- 17 (A Win)

Saints Beat Seahawks 39-32

Eagles Beat Cardinals 20-17 (A Win)

Cowboys Beat Rams 22-10 (A Win)

Ravens Beat Bengals 19 -17

Well, I think the results speak for themselves. Not much can be said on the disaster and curve balls picked and thrown by myself and teams this week. Don’t tell George but I may even do a little more educated picking for next week. Logos and names just aren’t cutting it. Onwards and upwards people, and don’t miss the excitement of the turning point for the Texan Bulls… Wildcard here we come!

Keep it together.
