Ignorant Predictions: Week 9 Recap and Week 10 Thursday Preview

Writer: George PatersonGeorge Paterson

Eagles over Texans (right, but closer than I thought)

Ravens over Saints

Bucs over Rams

Seahawks over Cards

Raiders over Jags (wrong)

Falcons over Chargers (wrong)

Bengals over Panthers

Vikings over Commanders

Lions over Packers

Dolphins over Bears

Bills over Jets (wrong, nice win Jets)

Patriots over Colts

Chiefs over Titans

A much better tipping week. Still, some big upsets this week, and a really entertaining set of games. Let’s look at my top 7 performers of the week.

7. Tom Brady – After writing off Tom last week, I have to give the GOAT credit where it is due. The offence is still real bad, but Tom led a trademark game winning drive against the Rams elite defence.

6. Joe Burrow – Even without his top receiver in Chase, Joey B put it on the Panthers in a spot where he needed to show that his team could bounce back from a disappointing performance last week. It helped having Joe Mixon have a career day (see below), but he made the throws when needed, and was ruthless in picking apart a vulnerable Carolina secondary.

5. Bill Belichick – We could have seen this one from a mile away, but the Pats under Bill did what they often do against rookie QBs and dominated the lowly Colts. The Pats need to keep stringing together wins before they fall any farther back in the AFC East divisional race.

4. Texans defensive line – I have to give credit where it is due. The Texans figured out the Eagles vaunted offensive line and made Hurts’ life miserable when he dropped back to pass. It didn’t lead to a win, but showed some promise for the Texans going forward.

3. Joe Mixon – Five touchdowns. Joe did it all, especially for fantasy owners, but it was more than that. Mixon was dangerous in all aspects: running, catching the ball, including a beautiful play when he showed great chemistry with his quarterback and was able to twist himself open. Look for the Bengals to use Mixon in space and in the passing game more.

2. Jets Defence – Wow! What a performance by Salah’s Jets. The offence is still a work-in-progress, but their D is playing lights out. Their line is big and tough, and the secondary is dominant. Sauce Gardiner is a no-doubt Defensive Rookie of the Year, and is perhaps playing himself into the overall Defensive player of the year. He has the swagger and talent that the Jets haven’t had since Revis Island, and the unit plays great, especially when they need to clamp down in the clutch. Josh Allen’s less-than-stellar performance was less an issue with the QB, but more with the awesome performance of his opposition.

1. Patrick Mahomes – Duh. An incredibly clutch performance that shows his incredible ability to create offence where it should not work. The Titans defence is a scary group, but the Chiefs offence is the scariest unit in the league. Mahomes is not only playing himself into another MVP, but into the GOAT conversation as well. Barring injury, this team is AFC Championship bound.

Thursday Night Preview

Panthers v Falcons

A rematch from the wild game only a few weeks ago, we now get an unexpected important NFC South showdown between the Panthers and Falcons. With the Bucs playing poorly and the Saints with inconsistency on both sides of the ball, there is a chance that either team could have a chance if they can string together a few wins. Unfortunately, both teams are coming off a loss, and will be looking to improve on their poor defensive performances of late. I see a back and forth game with a lot of rushing, and some bad tackling. Look for Foreman and Patterson to have big days on the ground, with the Falcons’ quality in the offence being the difference.

Falcons 34 over Panthers 27
