Ignorant Predictions – Week 7 Preview and Thursday Night Recap

Writer: George PatersonGeorge Paterson

Overall, we have a pretty underwhelming schedule this week with only one marquee matchup (see Niners v KC). It will still be entertaining to see some of the stories as they develop in Week 7. First off, the recap from Thursday night!

Thursday Night Recap – Cards 42 over Saints 34

Finally a watchable game on Thursday night! The Cards showed some grit, using a solid run game and aggressive defence to capitalise on a banged up Saints team. DeAndre Hopkins was his typical self, hauling in 10 grabs from Kyler, who needed a boost after a number of disappointing passing performances. Nuk Hopkins is such a scheme nightmare, and allowed the run-game to open up. Andy Dalton’s back-to-back pick 6s were the difference, but overall, with a depleted receiving corps, he played pretty well. Coach Allen has a decision to make next week at QB.

Week 7 Preview – Sunday and Monday

Cleveland v Baltimore

Baltimore will be looking to bounce back after last weeks’ loss to the Giants. I can see Lamar putting up big numbers on the ground, and throwing multiple scores in a comfortable win for the Ravens.

Baltimore 27 over Cleveland 13

Tampa Bay v Carolina

This is the week where the Bucs offence finally gets it together. I can see Tom going for 350 and 4 scores against a shambolic Panthers team that just sent their best player away in what should be a fire sale.

Tampa Bay 44 over Carolina 20

Atlanta v Cincinnati

The Falcons are playing well on offence under Coach Arthur Smith, but their defence is still finding its way. I can see the hot handed Joe Burrow taking early control and forcing Mariota to throw the ball to make a comeback; something he is not great at.

Cincinnati 30 over Atlanta 22

Detroit v Dallas

Detroit comes off a bye week where they hopefully are able to return some healthy starters back on offence. I can see them moving the ball against the Cowboys great defence, but Goff will get bashed up by the ferocious pass rush of the Boys and throw a killer interception late.

Dallas 28 over Detroit 21

NY Giants v Jacksonville

The Giants are one of the biggest surprises of the season, and Jacksonville has flashed some brilliance mixed with some poor performances by Trevor Lawrence. I reckon that the Jags are due for some better luck offensively and can see Etienne and Lawrence combining for some big runs that lead them to the victory at home.

Jacksonville 24 over Giants 20

Indy v Tennessee

Indy’s offence looked much better last week, even with the late scratching of John Taylor. This week, I can see them taking a step back against a good Titans front. Look for a heavy dose of the run game, and King Henry, and a ball control type game from Tennessee.

Tennessee 17 over Indy 13

Green Bay v Washington

Green Bay’s offense is a problem right now. Its backbone of using short passing to the backs to set up shots is not working right now, and the defence is not playing up to expectations. It is a good thing they are playing the struggling Commanders this week. I can see Rodgers and Co putting things together and passing all over Washington.

Green Bay 34 over Washington 24

NY Jets v Broncos

Talk about two teams sitting where no one expected. The Jets have already matched their win total from last year, and the Broncos are one of the most disappointing teams in the league. This will be a defensive battle with two good units against two anaemic offenses. Russell Wilson flashed when he was able to move outside the pocket, but was banged up. The Jets need to convert on 3rd down more consistently just to allow their defence to get the occasional rest. I can see a bonehead turnover by Russ allow the Jets to score their only touchdown late in the game.

Jets 19 over Broncos 16

Houston v Las Vegas

Cam’s boys could not have had a bye at a worse time. Their great back Dameon Pierce looking unstoppable against the Jags, and he could still have a good day in Las Vegas. That said, I can see Vegas forcing Mills into some bad decisions and David Carr feeding a frustrated Davante Adams plenty of targets leading to the win for the Raiders.

Las Vegas 27 over Houston 10

Seattle v LA Chargers

Two teams that have been up-and-down so far this season, I see this as one of the more entertaining games of the week. Kenneth Walker looked explosive last game, and Geno has been extremely efficient so far this season. On the other side, the Chargers offence has run the ball to better effect and seem to be getting their offensive line play together. I see a back-and-forth game with multiple lead changes, and Herbert leading the game winning drive late.

LA Chargers 38 over Seattle 31

Kansas City v San Francisco

San Fran pulled off the biggest trade of the season so far, grabbing CMC from the Panthers for a bevy of picks. While I think this will be a net benefit for the Niners, the problem with Christian has always been keeping him on the field. KC played great against the Bills, but just could not finish, and will be looking at carrying on their success throwing the ball against SF. I see the Niners jumping out to the early lead, but the inevitability of the KC offence and Pat Mahomes will see them win the day late.

Kansas City 22 over San Francisco 18

Pittsburgh v Miami

Tua will be back, but I don’t see this as the major factor in their win this week. Instead, it will be the defence, who can get after the quarterback. If it is Mitch Trubisky, it will be a long day for the Steelers.

Miami 20 over Pittsburgh 3

Chicago v New England

A big game for Bill Bellichick who will pass George Halas for 2nd all time in careers wins if the Pats can get over the Bears. This is his kind of game, scheming for an explosive young QB who has little support. The Bears are going to get smashed on offence, and the Pats will exert their will on Chicago with the smashmouth tandem of Stevenson and Damien Harris.

New England 24 over Chicago 6
