Ignorant Monday Doubleheader Recap and Thursday Preview

Writer: George PatersonGeorge Paterson

Hello all you good people out there. I know how painful Cam’s predictions about her beloved Texans can be, but there is some solace in knowing that they will come crashing down sooner rather than later. You’ve gotta learn somehow! Without futher ado, my thoughts on the Monday doubleheader and this Thursday’s AFC North showdown.

Bills vs Titans

The Bills are the class of the NFL, with the best offence that seems to be able to move the ball at will, and a relentless defence that does not feature many stars, but plays great as a ball-hawking unit. They shut down Henry early, and made the Titans use the drop back passing game. When you have the pass rush that the Bills can employ without blitzing, you can make it tough on quarterbacks. Josh Allen didn’t need to use his legs, but his accuracy and incredible connection with Stefon Diggs was on full display. It remains to be seen who can challenge the Bills.

Eagles vs Vikings

I thought the Vikings would offer a lot more in terms of their defensive effort in the rare second game on Monday night, but Jalen Hurts orchestrated a masterful rushing attack that exposed the lack of speed on Minnesota. Also, Kirk Cousins was his usual primetime self throwing picks and bailing out of plays. Without Dalvin Cook providing balance, the Eagles could key in on the pass-rush and blitzed all night. The Eagles look well positioned to blow the NFC East wide open and cruise to a high seed. Could the Monday night games be a very early Super Bowl preview?

Thursday Night: Browns vs Steelers

The biggest storyline for tomorrow’s game is the question of what will Mike Tomlin do at quarterback. Trubisky has been terrible in moving the ball down the field, but hasn’t turned the ball over much either. Fans in Pittsburgh are already calling for Kenny Pickett, but I think as long as Mitch is careful with the ball, he should keep the job. I don’t think the Browns are the team that forces the Steelers’ hand. While the Browns’ running game is elite, so is the Steelers’ ability to turn the ball over. I can see a low scoring affair with Pittsburgh sealing the victory with a late turnover and clock-eating drive.

Steelers 20 over Browns 13

Short but sweet with today’s entry. Stay tuned for our Week 2 podcast recap, and my preview of the rest of the Week 3 games. And please don't blame me for Cam's Super Bowl prediction. I'm really trying to educate her, I promise!
