The Ignorant Wife Speaks: Cam's Week 3 Recap

Writer's picture: George PatersonGeorge Paterson

Wow, wow, wow! My two seeds’ game had everything: action, pressure, touchdowns! I even got to learn what a double foul was and that such a thing existed…Was a little pointless as one cancelled the other out. Why not just let them play on?

Not going to lie, it took me the first 4 minutes to realise which team was which. Hint for future viewers who are unsure, look closely at the helmets… Once I figured this out I could follow the game.

Look the Bears did their thing and I’m happy for their success as they are my top seed pick for the NFC, however I have to give our Bulls a shout out for great improvement and a more exciting game.

Let’s break this down. We had a little whoopsie moment with a fumble in the first few seconds of the game handing the ball back to the Bears. Never mind, onwards and upwards.

The boys looked good in the 1st quarter, so they didn’t waste time warming into their positions this week and had strong defence, backed up with a good offensive side. Excellent first touchdown by Jordan Atkins (#88). This gave our side momentum and confidence to push through to the 2nd quarter even whilst trailing the Bears.

Things quickly changed in the 2nd quarter when our boys stole the lead back and held strong for the rest of the game (minus 1 minute at the end). The Bears appeared ruffled with easy fumbles and even going backwards on several plays. Great pressure Houston!

The 3rd quarter had our boys riding high, enjoying their newfound confidence, driving the Bears back, gaining yards and points.

By the 4th Quarter I realised it would be a case of ice baths all round with the thumping and clashing of pads, helmets and even gloves for the receivers. This quarter also allowed me to observe a little more closely the Bears trying to draw us into pocket plays whilst going long and learning the term chunk run. We really didn’t need that interception by the Bears with one minute remaining. I didn’t completely know what this meant at the time until George looked at me trying to contain a smirk, rubbing my back saying “they tried hard honey,”… Spoiler! This being said, he wasn’t wrong. It allowed the Bears to wind down the clock and steal the win from our Bulls.

The game resulted in the Bears 23-20 win over the Houston Texans.

We had a great game, lots more excitement and I got to see our offensive side come into action a bit more as they had more time on the field. Was this a potential peek preview for the 22 Superbowl? Maybe…

Special shout outs to:

Ka’imi Fairbairn (#7), an excellent kicking game, building his own records of 63 goals in a row from the 40 yard mark, great achievement!

Chris Moore (#15 WR), several great plays at intricate times of the game.

Dameon Pierce (#31 RB), unreal dummy plays or play action fakes as they are known and excellent work covering yards when needed, capable of moving either side of the field and some fun dance moves to back up his play.

We cannot give shout outs without mentioning the incredible game Jalen Pitre (#5 DB [Defensive Back]). He had an unbelievable game, coming into his own on the Texans with incredible interceptions at critical moments, great yard coverage and his first sack! Yes I had to look that up and it means tackling the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage before he can throw it forward. It was all very exciting; one to watch!

Let’s jump over now and have a glance at the rest of my picks for Week 3…

Okay, well I’m one up on last week, which is still a win! Again, I got the reassuring nod from George to say that there were lots of upsets in games this week with many unpredictable outcomes. Maybe he was trying to convince himself as well as me…well that’s what I’m sticking to.

Keep it together.
